88 Drummers. 88 Minutes.
On Friday night, I got to experience a west-coast tradition: a drum circle in Los Angeles’ La Brea Tar Pits. The 88BoaDrums circle was big in every sense of the word: sponsored by Nike’s new sportswear line, the show featured 88 drummers playing on full drum kits for 88 minutes (beginning on 08/08/08 at 8:08 p.m.)
(Yes, someone in Nike’s marketing department has a unnatural and disturbing fetish with the number 8.)
The event was the kickoff for the Los Angeles Play City Training Camp YouthNoise ran Saturday and Sunday. More to come on the training camp soon, but it was basically a two-day social entrepreneurship training sesion for college students interested in developing programs that use sport to acheive social good.
In any case, great weekend, but only about 12 hours of sleep combined over the past three days, so only a short post today.
